If you drink a lot of sparkling water at home, you will notice that the SodaStream fountain and a few reservoirs pay for themselves quickly. Because it costs about 25 cents per litre of sparkling water, it is much more affordable than a supermarket bargain. Think also of all the environmental costs associated with the production and delivery of glass and plastic bottles.
Although the SodaStream machine has many advantages, one of the disadvantages is that it can be used to fill tanks. The fact that you have to pay for the CO2, as well as for replacing the tank, can be annoying. Thanks to the enormous creativity that exists in the world, there are now do-it-yourself solutions that save you on paying for a new CO2 bottle or going to the store every time.
Since a refillable can cost up to $20, making your own soft drink can cost a little more. Not to mention the difficulties if you don’t live near a shop that has jerry cans. For this reason, it is easier and more affordable to use one of the modifications below, allowing you to use a larger tank.
Fortunately, there are adapters that can be used to connect conventional CO2 tanks to your SodaStream machine. You can save a significant part of the cost of filling your SodaStream machine by filling the CO2 tanks in your home store, which deliver CO2 cheaply and safely to the food. With this method a large prepayment is made, because you have to buy both a CO2 tank and an adapter, but after some time you will certainly pay the costs. It also requires less work, because once the system is set up, all you have to do is go to your home store every now and then to fill the tank. Since these CO2 tanks can be quite large and contain many times the CO2 in the SodaStream carbonators, you will also have to travel even less to fill the tank.
1. External tank adapter
If you decide to use an adapter and hose modification, you must purchase a kit that includes a hose, adapter and pressure gauge, as well as a 20-pound silicon-free CO2 tank. Just drill a hole in the back of the SodaStream tower that’s big enough to accommodate the smallest accessories in your line. If necessary, use a wood chisel to enlarge and clean the hole, because with a few sharp edges you can cut through your CO2 line.
Then simply screw the line from the SodaStream side and then screw it into the made hole with the shortcut. After mounting the SodaStream you can fit a pressure gauge and a plastic washer and install them on the CO2 tank by following the instructions supplied with the adapter.
All you have to do is attach a wire to the pressure gauge and that’s it. Although the hose and tank are clearly visible in your kitchen, which is not everyone’s business, it saves you having to walk long distances to the store and change the tank. Watch the video below to see how one of these kits works.
2. Charging adapter
The filling adapters work with a wide range of CO2 cylinders. If you save money by using a large paint can, adapters are an important part of the modification. As a rule, they have an all-steel construction that is solid and stable.
This CO2 filler is a handy accessory if you have a SodaStream machine. These easy to screw on adapters allow you to fill the CO2 cartridges yourself, making them an extension of your SodaStream machine. This is an inexpensive modification that uses a refill adapter, making CO2 cylinders superfluous and saving money.
It only takes three things to make this change. Connection, SodaStream machine and CO2 tank. If you can’t find one next door or with a friend, you can buy from Amazon for about $60, but remember that this is the only tank you need to buy in the future. And if you buy a 20 pound tank, you get the CO2 equivalent of 22 small internal tanks. Don’t forget that you can save a lot of money in the long run if you buy the biggest tank you can afford.
Once you have purchased all the parts, you can start assembling. First remove the top of the tank and place it upside down on the container so that you can see a small threaded connection where normally a screw is attached to a small bushing. Unscrew the large end of the tank until it is tight, but not so tight that it causes a crack in the plastic wire. This should be a simple process that does not require any physical changes to the SodaStream unit, which would void the warranty.
Then pull the cable out of the tank through the SodaStream housing before turning it to prepare for soda production. Finally, take the end of the tank with the pressure gauge and connect it to the CO2 tank. Don’t forget to place the plastic ring between the brass fitting and the tank, so that it acts as a seal between the two metal parts, preventing the loss of CO2. Once connected, simply open the valve on top of the tank, attach the SodaStream bottle and use normally.
With this method you don’t have to worry about spending a lot of money or quickly running out of CO2. You can even install this custom unit on the worktop, hiding the bushing and hose. Watch the video below to see how this change works.
3. Paint ball/container adapter
Another way to save money with your CO2 pattern is to use a paintball tank with your SodaStream machine. This not only saves you money, but also means you don’t need a hose in the back or an external tank nearby. The only thing that can be a problem is where to fill the paintball tanks.
When refuelling paintball tanks, the sports retailer must take first place on the call list. Paintball shops are also an obvious choice, but they may not be as numerous as you might think. If you’re still unlucky, try a dive shop, artisanal brewery or welding shop.
Tanks can be purchased on Amazon, and adapters should be easy to find on the internet. These small brass adapters have a small adjusting screw that you may need to adjust to ensure good airflow. Make sure every adapter you buy is made of lead-free stainless steel and brass, and that it does not interfere with the food quality indicator.
Also find the largest tank you can find for your carbonator. This can vary between 24 and 9 ounces, depending on the manufacturer. Watch this video to see how paintball tanks can be used for modification.
If you use one of these adjustments, you may need to spend some money in advance, but the savings on the back will be greater than the cost of the makeup. This not only saves money, but also a lot of time when you have to walk to the warehouse to change the tank. It is the perfect solution for anyone who loves soft drinks and is adept at a good do-it-yourself project.

Has anyone heard about the doctor’s CO2? I placed an order with your company for some viagra and was happy to receive it. I’ve used viagra before and tried your generic brand and is the same. Are there alternative retailers?

I sent my money for spare parts, I wrote off my account, the product was never sent, several emails to customer service, and they never responded to any of them. Cheater. Stay away, at all costs.

Hello,
I also bought a hose in January, they didn’t send a message when they shipped the product.
You withdrew money from my credit card. Luckily I paid via PayPal and got my money back.
More than two months is bad service or theft.
Avoid them.

Can anyone confirm that the Freedom One+ kits work with the Sodastream gaming devices? Thank you very much.

I ordered replacement valves at aliexpress dot com. Look for the M18X1-5 thread for the soda valve. It was 20 bucks for two. The disadvantage is that the delivery takes some time, but the delivery is free.

Hey, sporka soda! I paid this high fee for the soda fair, and I finally had enough. So I was thinking, why don’t you try your method of supplying dry ice again. As a woman, I was afraid I couldn’t take the top off, but I followed your instructions and in the end it worked. Then I rushed to my local grocery store, which had some big little pieces of dry ice (only half a pound), but I thought, let’s try it before committing to buying 8 pounds, which is their standard size. I went home on your instructions… And it worked! A nice sparkling water. – I’m glad. – Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.

Question: If I buy a few more cans and fill them with dry ice, how long do you think they’ll stay unused? Or do you think once they’re sealed, they shouldn’t rot anymore? So I want to fill 3 to 60 liters of soda at once, is that wise? 8 pounds of dry ice cost $18, and finding smaller sizes where I live is a bit difficult.

I’m stuck with an empty 80-gallon tank, and it doesn’t fit in my car.
Does anyone know if the shops allow 130 litres for (2) 60 litres?

I just filled mine, but the valve’s so closed I can’t put it in anymore. Do you have any suggestions?

CO2 doesn’t break down. If you fill 3 tanks, they will last as long as the storage tanks.

I bought a soda adapter and two tanks. Everyone was sent away pretty quickly, but I can’t fill the tanks. I took them to Dick and the Academy, but neither of them can fill them. I sent the tanks back to Sodamod, thinking they were defective, and got new ones, but to no avail. I searched the Sodamod website to find out what the problem was, but I didn’t find anything.

I’ve been told you can take a bottle of Co2 from a soda well to a local dive shop, and they’ll fill it up for you… cheap! Has anyone tried this before?
It seems so reasonable and simple!

Co2 is toxic to respiration. They don’t have dive shops.

The dive shop can’t fill them, some paintball shops can.

to use an adapter, you don’t have to adjust the pressure? The pressure in a CO2 bottle is about 500-1000 PSI, depending on the temperature. Can the soda flow withstand this pressure?

Great video! Everything is well explained and demonstrated.
Waiting for the next thing you promised.

Good morning, sir. Is someone making an adapter that comes out of a soda can and turns into a paintball top? I live in Colombia with a lot of paintball shops that don’t care what a tank says. Filling a soda tank costs 1.80 cents, but the top of the tank has to fit on your filling machine. So the adapter, which allows the soda to flow into the paintball tank lid from above.

It’s a good article. I refilled my only Soda Club (the predecessor of Soda Stream, but from the same company) by buying a few kilos of dry ice each time at a beer shop. A little less than 2 pounds is probably enough, but I’d rather be wrong at the top. I would like to take care of weighing your CO2 and prevent it from overflowing and swelling. Soda Stream (CLUB) machines have what I consider to be an overly invasive and conservative bypass installation that simply releases overpressure.
In addition, it is not necessary to remove this discharge pin to ensure that no pressure remains in the cylinder before it is removed from the Soda Stream/Club machine. Simply press the button that allows you to bring the carbonated drink into the bottle or the water (without the bottle being present) and keep it pressed until the remaining gas whistles and you can leave. If you overfill the bus, it will not explode catastrophically; on the contrary, the safety valve simply allows the overpressure to escape.
If you accidentally start unscrewing the can before all the gas pressure has been released, the system will not explode on you, but if you start unscrewing the can, you will hear a hissing sound as the pressure decreases.
Once you have found the source of the dry ice, it is very easy to fill the can.
You can use a stick as suggested, or, in my case, I have a set of screwdrivers and I use one of them to put crushed dry ice in the can. I find that if I fill my funnel with crushed dry ice and then press my screwdriver with a rubber hammer, the weight of the dry ice at the top (in the funnel) prevents the dry ice from splashing, so that my tamper sends the dry ice through the funnel and not onto my work surface.
It seems simple to me and it works very well.
I’m fascinated by more advanced systems that can save me even more money, but soda water at home is pretty cheap since I started filling my soda bottle. I’m glad.
Good luck to anyone who isn’t trying to pay large sums of money to buy soda cans.

I have the same question as Hans. Does anyone have an answer? I was in a paintball shop, and his filler neck has a thinner thread than my soda can. I thought it would be easy to find a direct adapter, but I see that this is not the case. Anyone?

You must use a paintball tank and buy an adapter to use it in your vending machine: https://www.amazon.com/SodaMod-Soda-Club-CO2-Adapter/dp/B00CU0E73O.
