There are many reasons to buy a SodaStream car: Convenience, better taste (subjective, but seems to apply to almost everyone), environmental benefits, etc. However, it is not always possible to save money by switching to a soft drink producer. To help you understand the actual price of SodaStream equipment, here is a list of the best items to consider and a handy calculator to help you see how much you can save/save.
1. Machine priceSodaStream
To start with, you will of course need the SodaStream device itself. They range from $75 for the lowest models to $300 for more advanced and better designed models. Fortunately, this will usually be a one-time purchase (at least for the foreseeable future), but it’s still advisable to choose more robust models (such as the SodaStream Genesis, which comes with a 10-year warranty for $90, or the fantastically designed KitchenAid SodaStream for $250) if you want to take a big hit.
2. Filling rate
Unfortunately, the supply of carbonators that provide carbonation is not free of charge. The two options offered by SodaStream are 60-litre and 130-litre carbonators, which cost $15 and $30 respectively to refuel at the participating facilities. The 130L version is about 10% cheaper, but is not available in all locations / is not compatible with all SodaStream machines, so you should take this into account when choosing a machine. Fortunately, do-it-yourself charging methods allow you to reduce costs by an order of magnitude.
3. Price of the perfume
Ideally, you don’t need any extra flavours and all you need is sparkling water. But if you’re like me, you’d probably prefer some kind of taste additive to make the water more exciting. Depending on what you use, you may end up spending more on flavour than water, especially if you use your own SodaStream flavoured syrups. There are also cheaper alternatives, but you still have to consider the costs, especially if you are an alternative to the soda machine by buying the soda directly.
4. Your use
First of all, you have to ask yourself how much soda/storage water you actually drink. If you drink sparkling soda, you almost never have to buy a SodaStream car. On the other hand, if you drink a lot of sparkling water and use do-it-yourself charging methods, you can imagine saving hundreds of dollars a year.
If you keep these things in mind, give the calculator below a picture to see if SodaStream is worth the price for you.
